Does mannitol need to be infused rapidly?
Generally, whether mannitol needs to be administered by rapid infusion depends on the urgency of the patient's condition. If the patient is in an emergency, rapid infusion of mannitol is usually required. However, if the patient's condition is stable, rapid infusion of mannitol is not recommended.
If the patient is in an emergency situation, such as cerebral edema or acute glaucoma attack, doctors may recommend rapid infusion of mannitol to quickly reduce intracranial pressure or intraocular pressure and rapidly alleviate symptoms.
If the patient’s condition is relatively stable without sudden emergencies, rapid infusion of mannitol is generally unnecessary. In such cases, accelerating the infusion rate may lead to adverse reactions such as electrolyte imbalances and pulmonary edema, which could impair recovery.
During treatment, patients should avoid adjusting the infusion rate or dosage on their own to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the medication.
