Is it okay not to rotate a newly pierced earring?
In general, newly pierced ears should not be twisted. After getting a new piercing, the ear tissue is damaged, and excessive twisting of the earring may break the forming scab at the wound site, leading to bleeding and delaying healing. About 2–3 days after the piercing, you can gently rotate the earring, as the surrounding tissue begins to heal gradually. If the earring remains completely still during this period, it may adhere to the newly formed granulation tissue, potentially causing inflammation, pain, and complications when changing earrings later.
After getting your ears pierced, disinfect the area around the piercing daily using povidone-iodine solution or 75% alcohol to prevent infection. The piercing site should remain dry during the healing process and avoid contact with water or other contaminants. Avoid touching the piercing with your hands to prevent transferring bacteria that could lead to infection. For a period after the piercing, wear earrings made of pure silver, pure gold, or medical-grade stainless steel to minimize the risk of allergic reactions. Additionally, the earring material should be of moderate firmness—not too hard or too soft. Monitor the piercing closely during healing. If symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain, or discharge occur, seek medical attention promptly.
