Post-Circumcision Care Instructions: Wear loose-fitting undergarments to avoid local pressure that may cause pain, swelling, or other discomfort. Diet should be light and bland; avoid spicy, stimulating foods and alcohol. Light activities such as walking and sitting are permissible, but strenuous activities—including running, ball sports, or any vigorous physical exertion—must be avoided.

After male circumcision, the primary focus should be on continuing anti-inflammatory treatment and preventing infection of the surgical wound. Sexual activity must be avoided until the wound has fully healed. Additionally, diet should be adjusted to minimize consumption of spicy and irritating foods. So, what precautions should be taken after circumcision?

Post-Circumcision Precautions

Following circumcision, patients should wear loose-fitting undergarments to avoid local pressure that may cause pain or swelling. Diet should remain light and bland; spicy and stimulating foods—as well as alcohol—must be strictly avoided. While routine activities such as walking and sitting are permissible, vigorous physical activities—including running and ball sports—should be avoided.

During urination, care must be taken to prevent urine contamination of the dressing. If urine accidentally soaks the gauze, promptly visit the hospital for dressing replacement. Follow your physician’s instructions for scheduled follow-up visits to assess wound healing and manage any necessary topical medications. Sutures should be removed only as directed by your doctor; premature removal or exposure of the wound to water is not advised. Generally, bathing is prohibited for the first two weeks post-surgery. After two weeks, if wound healing is progressing well, gentle bathing may resume—but soaking or scrubbing the wound area must still be avoided.

Firstly, infection prevention is critical: Maintain good personal hygiene habits after surgery—wear 100% cotton underwear and avoid repeatedly touching or rubbing the foreskin and glans, as this may introduce bacterial infection. Establish a consistent, gentle cleansing routine. Secondly, prevent bleeding: Avoid excessive physical exertion or strenuous activity post-surgery, as these may cause wound dehiscence and exacerbate bleeding. We hope this information proves helpful.
