Introduction
After a mite bite, patients may develop generalized, uniform urticarial papules or edematous erythematous plaques accompanied by pruritus. Oral administration of levocetirizine dihydrochloride oral solution or epinastine hydrochloride capsules is recommended. For severe pruritus, intramuscular injection of chlorpheniramine maleate injection may be administered. When the rash appears bright red, topical treatment with 3% boric acid solution followed by application of a mixture of hydrocortisone butyrate ointment and fusidic acid ointment is advised.

Mites are common parasites that typically reside on the skin surface. Under normal circumstances, they cause no adverse effects. However, individuals with oily skin—due to overactive sebaceous glands—may experience significant mite proliferation. Following a mite bite, intense itching is commonly observed. So, what should one do after being bitten by mites?

What to Do After a Mite Bite

After a mite bite, patients may develop generalized, uniformly sized urticarial papules or edematous erythematous plaques, accompanied by pruritus. Clinically, treatment may include oral administration of levocetirizine hydrochloride oral solution or epinastine hydrochloride capsules. For severe pruritus, intramuscular injection of chlorpheniramine maleate injection may be administered. When the rash appears bright red, topical application of a 3% boric acid solution followed by a combination ointment of hydrocortisone butyrate and fusidic acid is recommended. During treatment, all clothing and bedding must be boiled and thoroughly air-dried.

Mite bites result from human contact with mites. In fact, some individuals develop allergic reactions upon exposure. Mites primarily inhabit mattresses, cushions, sofas, and bed linens. To effectively prevent recurrence, household items such as bed sheets, sleeping pads, cushions, and sofas require thorough disinfection—either by prolonged sun exposure or immersion in boiling water. These measures effectively eliminate mites and reduce the risk of reinfestation; therefore, special attention is warranted.

Patients bitten by mites are advised to avoid strongly irritating foods—such as spicy dishes—and fatty foods; instead, their diet should remain light and bland. We hope this information proves helpful!
