Introduction
Male urethritis can be treated with medications under a physician’s guidance, such as quinolones (e.g., levofloxacin) or cephalosporin antibiotics (e.g., cefdinir). Patients may also take traditional Chinese patent medicines as adjunctive therapy—for example, Sanjin tablets. Male urethritis is commonly caused by ascending microbial infection, which represents one of the most frequent etiologies of this condition.

Urethritis in men is a common urological condition. When affected, patients not only experience difficulty urinating but may also suffer significant impairment to their daily work and life if the condition becomes severe. So, how is male urethritis treated?

How Is Male Urethritis Treated?

Male urethritis can be effectively managed under medical supervision using pharmacological therapy—for example, fluoroquinolones such as levofloxacin or cephalosporin antibiotics like cefdinir. Patients may also take traditional Chinese patent medicines—such as Sanjin tablets—as adjunctive therapy to help alleviate symptoms. During treatment, patients should drink ample water and urinate frequently. Increased fluid intake promotes greater urine production, which helps flush the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra—thereby relieving urinary tract irritation caused by urethritis.

Male urethritis is commonly caused by ascending microbial infection—a frequent etiology of this condition. Pathogens responsible for ascending infections include bacteria, mycoplasma, and chlamydia. Among bacterial causes, Escherichia coli and streptococci are most prevalent. In addition to bacterial infection, mycoplasma and chlamydia infections can also trigger urethritis—and both are classified as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in China.

Patients should ensure adequate rest, avoid fatigue, maintain good personal hygiene, and keep the genital area clean and dry. We hope this information proves helpful!
