After undergoing periodontal scaling and root planing, it is recommended to avoid cold beverages for 3–7 days. Following treatment, tooth roots may become exposed and dentin sensitivity increases; cold drinks can irritate the teeth, causing sourness and discomfort. If persistent tooth sensitivity or recurrent gingival bleeding and swelling occur, prompt medical evaluation and follow-up are necessary.

It is not advisable to drink ice-cold cola immediately after tooth extraction. If bleeding persists or swelling and pain progressively worsen after tooth extraction, seek medical attention promptly.

Common recurrent aphthous ulcers are non-contagious; they are associated with immune dysfunction, irregular sleep patterns, and local trauma—not with pathogen infection. In contrast, oral lesions caused by herpesviruses are contagious and require appropriate isolation and protective measures. If an ulcer fails to heal over an extended period or if the lesion continues to enlarge, prompt medical evaluation is essential.

Infants with oral ulcers should not be given oral medications without medical guidance, as their organs are still immature and inappropriate drug use may impose unnecessary strain on their bodies. Most mild cases resolve gradually with local care alone. However, prompt medical evaluation is required if the ulcer enlarges, the infant refuses to eat, or persistent fever develops.

Infant oral ulcers can be improved through oral hygiene care, adjustment of feeding methods, local physical soothing measures, topical pharmacological interventions, and identification of underlying contributing factors. Different approaches are appropriate for varying degrees of ulcer severity, helping to alleviate local discomfort and promote gradual healing of the damaged mucosa. If persistent refusal to feed, recurrent fever, or other concerning symptoms occur, prompt medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital are recommended.

Individuals suitable for oral examinations include the general healthy population, children and adolescents, middle-aged and older adults, individuals experiencing oral discomfort symptoms, and those at high risk for oral diseases. If persistent symptoms such as long-standing gingival bleeding or non-resolving oral masses occur, prompt medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital are recommended.

Healthy individuals are advised to undergo a dental examination every six months, while those at higher risk for oral diseases should have check-ups every three to four months. Many oral conditions—such as dental caries, periodontal disease, and mucosal abnormalities—produce no obvious pain in their early stages; therefore, regular examinations are essential for early detection. If you experience recurrent gum bleeding or tooth swelling and pain, seek prompt dental care.
