Differences Between Torasemide Tablets and Furosemide Tablets
Disease description:
Recently, my doctor prescribed two medications for me: torasemide tablets and furosemide tablets. What is the difference between torasemide tablets and furosemide tablets?
Both of the above medications are diuretics, specifically potassium-wasting diuretics. They differ primarily in potency and in their effects on potassium excretion versus potassium retention. Diuretics must not be used long-term, excessively, or for prolonged periods. Serum potassium levels should be closely monitored to prevent hypokalemia or hyperkalemia. These medications must be used strictly as prescribed by a physician—self-medication is strictly prohibited, especially with diuretics. Regular follow-up testing—including complete blood count (CBC), renal function tests, and electrolyte panels—is essential.
