Can people with gout eat salmon?
Disease description:
I’ve had gout for many years, and my condition has recently worsened. A friend visited me and brought some salmon—can people with gout eat salmon?
Salmon must be avoided. Gout is a metabolic disorder primarily caused by excessively high levels of uric acid in the body that cannot be adequately excreted. Patients should avoid foods high in purines and fats. A low-purine diet is recommended, and seafood, beef, lamb, and alcohol should be strictly avoided to prevent the formation of uric acid stones and worsening of the condition. Moderately consuming whole grains and cereals is acceptable, and regular outdoor aerobic exercise is encouraged to improve overall physical fitness.
