Is finger joint pain caused by gout?
Disease description:
My finger joints have been slightly swollen and painful recently. Could this joint pain be gout?
Swelling and pain in the finger joints may be caused by osteoarthritis; gout is generally not considered the likely cause. You may visit a reputable local hospital for a blood test to check whether your serum uric acid level is elevated. If the symptoms are indeed due to osteoarthritis, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be prescribed under a physician’s guidance. Additionally, adjunctive therapies—such as ultra-short wave therapy and traditional Chinese herbal steam therapy—may help alleviate symptoms.
