Disease description:

I usually enjoy eating vinegar very much. My friends say vinegar is an alkaline food, but vinegar tastes acidic—so isn’t it an acidic food? I’d like to know: Is vinegar actually an acidic or an alkaline food?

Vinegar is an alkaline food. Its scientific name is acetic acid, and prior to absorption and metabolism in the human body, it is unequivocally an acidic substance. Yet nature’s design is truly remarkable. Once vinegar transitions from the realm of chemistry into that of food and nutrition, it becomes classified as an alkaline food. Many people assume that because vinegar tastes sour, it must be an acidic food. In fact, the opposite is true for numerous foods: although vinegar, citrus fruits, plums, and apricots all taste sour, they are not acidic foods—in fact, they are classic examples of alkaline foods.
