How to Remove Tophi
Disease description:
I was diagnosed with gout two years ago but didn’t pay much attention to it; now I’ve developed tophi. How can tophi be removed?
Gout is primarily caused by elevated uric acid levels in the body, leading to the deposition of uric acid crystals—known as tophi—in joints or the kidneys. The main approaches to removing tophi include:
- First, using uric acid–lowering medications to dissolve the tophi;
- Drinking ample water daily (at least 2,000 mL) to promote uric acid excretion;
- Supplementing with uricosuric agents (e.g., probenecid);
- Avoiding beer and sugary beverages entirely;
- Refraining from consuming seafood.
