For patients with gout, symptoms can be alleviated and recurrent gout attacks prevented primarily through pharmacological treatment and dietary management. Under a physician’s guidance, patients may use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), uric acid–lowering agents that inhibit uric acid production, and medications that promote uric acid excretion. Additionally, patients should drink plenty of water and ensure adequate vitamin C intake. They should avoid hotpot, barbecued or fried foods, and alcoholic beverages.
