Is supraventricular tachycardia dangerous?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve been experiencing discomfort in my chest, particularly frequent palpitations and an abnormally rapid heartbeat. I went to the hospital for evaluation and was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). Is SVT dangerous?
Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) carries certain risks for affected patients. If the arrhythmia persists and fails to revert spontaneously, the excessively rapid heart rate may precipitate heart failure. Patients should maintain adequate rest, avoid physical overexertion, and prevent mental stress or anxiety—particularly sudden emotional fluctuations—as these measures can help reduce the frequency of acute episodes. For patients experiencing frequent or recurrent episodes, referral to a cardiologist is warranted; in some cases, radiofrequency catheter ablation may be indicated.
