What medications are used to treat pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)?
Disease description:
I’ve recently experienced a recurrence of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). It resolved with medication previously, but I can’t recall which drugs I took. What medications are commonly used to treat PID?
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is typically treated with antibiotics to eradicate the causative pathogens and alleviate associated symptoms. Commonly used antibiotics include levofloxacin, metronidazole, ceftriaxone, and azithromycin. If fever is present, analgesic and antipyretic medications—such as ibuprofen—may be administered. During treatment, physicians conduct regular follow-up evaluations to assess symptom improvement; if no clinical improvement is observed, the antibiotic regimen may need to be adjusted. Patients suspected of having PID should seek prompt medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital, avoiding self-medication.
