Can people with gout eat lotus root slices?
Disease description:
I’ve been craving lotus root slices these past couple of days, but due to my gout, my diet hasn’t changed much over the past week. I’d like to ask: Is it safe for people with gout to eat lotus root slices?
Gout patients can consume lotus root slices. During the intercritical period of gout, patients may moderately consume foods with moderate purine content but should avoid high-purine foods. Lotus root is classified as a low-purine food, containing approximately 20 mg of purine per 100 g. Therefore, it is safe for gout patients to consume lotus root during the acute, intercritical, and chronic phases of the disease. Additionally, lotus root is nutritionally rich—high in carbohydrates and low in fat—making it a low-calorie food. For gout patients with comorbid obesity, hyperlipidemia, or diabetes, consuming lotus root may aid in weight management.
