My father used to enjoy eating various types of fish, but after being diagnosed with gout, he stopped consuming fish altogether. I’d like to ask: Is it safe for someone with gout to eat tilapia?

Patients with gout should not consume tilapia. Individuals with gout are generally advised to avoid fish altogether, as it may trigger allergic reactions. Each gout flare-up inflicts damage on the joints, and repeated episodes over time can lead to irreversible joint damage. It is important to reduce or eliminate intake of meat broths, organ meats, alcoholic beverages, seafood, and other high-purine meats. Additionally, increasing fluid intake—especially water—is recommended. Medications such as febuxostat or benzbromarone may be used to control serum uric acid levels. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
