My father has always enjoyed eating strawberries, but after being diagnosed with gout, he stopped consuming them altogether. I’d like to ask: Are strawberry consumption restrictions necessary for gout patients?

People with gout can safely eat strawberries. Gout results from abnormal purine metabolism in the body, leading to increased uric acid production. When uric acid levels remain uncontrolled over time, gout attacks occur. Patients with gout should primarily restrict high-purine foods. Strawberries contain very low levels of purines and are therefore not considered high-purine foods. In contrast, high-purine foods may trigger gout flare-ups and worsen the condition. During this period, it is essential to maintain proper personal care and avoid bacterial infections. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
