Disease description:

I have a habit of drinking red wine, but I also suffer from gout. I’m unsure whether these two are compatible. May I ask: Is it safe for people with gout to drink red wine?

Dr. Pan Yongyuan
Patients with gout may consume small amounts of red wine. If patients can strictly control their alcohol intake, moderate consumption of red wine is permissible; however, beer and spirits (e.g., baijiu) must be avoided entirely. Excessive alcohol intake gradually elevates serum uric acid levels and may exacerbate gout symptoms. Patients with gout should undergo regular medical examinations at the hospital.
