What should I do if blisters develop after a mosquito bite?
Disease description:
My younger sister is 16 years old. Yesterday, she went out to play and was bitten in multiple places. Subsequently, she developed raised bumps that are extremely itchy. Scratching causes pain, yet the urge to scratch is irresistible. We would like to know how to manage blisters that develop after insect bites.
I was bitten by a mosquito, and a blister formed.
If the blister is small, few in number, and intact (not ruptured), topical anti-itch medications—such as those containing menthol—or a combination of mild soap and water may be applied locally.
If the blister is large, it is recommended to aspirate the blister fluid using a sterile syringe inserted from the side, or to puncture the blister gently from the side with a clean toothpick. Then, use a cotton swab to gently roll and express the fluid while preserving the integrity of the blister roof—this helps protect the underlying wound.
Properly managed blisters tend to dry out, be reabsorbed, form a scab, and eventually slough off, leading to complete healing.
