Bruising immediately after a mosquito bite
Disease description:
I developed bruising after being bitten by a mosquito on my way home from work. Why does bruising occur immediately upon a mosquito bite?
Bruising or purpura around a mosquito bite may indicate secondary pressure-induced purpura. This occurs when intense itching following the bite leads the patient to scratch vigorously, thereby increasing capillary permeability and causing extravasation of red blood cells. Under a physician’s guidance, oral levocetirizine hydrochloride capsules may be prescribed, along with topical mometasone furoate ointment. If skin breakdown (ulceration) occurs, fusidic acid ointment may be applied topically, and wet compresses with a 2% boric acid solution may be used.
