What does it mean when blood is vomited?
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling extremely unwell this week, with persistent nausea. Today, I even vomited blood. What could be causing vomiting of blood?
The primary causes of vomiting blood include pharyngeal mucosal bleeding, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and peptic ulcers. In patients with pharyngeal mucosal bleeding, forceful vomiting may injure the pharyngeal mucosa, leading to visible bleeding. Patients with GERD may present with hematemesis (vomiting blood), heartburn, and epigastric pain. Those with peptic ulcers may experience hematemesis, nausea, and anorexia.
