What causes severe swelling after a mosquito bite?
Disease description:
It’s truly summer now, and there are many mosquitoes. Yesterday, I went out to play for a while and got bitten numerous times. This morning, the bites were still swollen—yet others’ bites weren’t swollen at all. Why am I experiencing such pronounced swelling? What causes severe swelling after mosquito bites?
This may be caused by an allergic reaction or by insect-bite-induced dermatitis. Insect saliva injected during a bite can trigger various reactions: mild cases may present with localized wheals or erythematous papules, while more severe cases may develop indurated plaques or even vesicles. Maintain good personal hygiene, practice disinfection and insect control, and avoid insect bites. Symptomatic relief can be achieved by washing the affected area with soapy water. Additionally, calamine lotion may be applied. In some cases, topical corticosteroid ointment may also be used.
