Some cases of hypothyroidism can be cured, while others cannot. Hypothyroidism results from insufficient thyroid hormone secretion, often due to low iodine levels in the body; it may also be caused by excessive use of antithyroid medications—in such cases, a cure is possible. However, if hypothyroidism develops following thyroidectomy, it is generally not curable. Patients may consume iodine-rich foods, such as sea fish and nori.
