Disease description:

I’ve been experiencing this for a long time: frequent headaches at night, accompanied by nosebleeds. I’d like to know what might be causing both the headaches and the nosebleeds.

This condition may be an upper respiratory tract infection. When patients with such symptoms forcefully blow their nose, the nasal mucosa may rupture, leading to epistaxis (nosebleeds). In such cases, the epistaxis typically resolves spontaneously following treatment of the upper respiratory tract infection. Patients with hypertension are also prone to epistaxis, as elevated systemic blood pressure increases vascular wall stress, potentially causing vessel rupture and subsequent nosebleeds. Moreover, in hypertensive patients, not only is local nasal mucosal vascular pressure elevated, but intracranial vascular pressure and intracranial pressure are also often increased—possibly resulting in associated headache symptoms.
