Constipation may cause black stools. Constipation primarily refers to difficulty in defecation and a reduced frequency of bowel movements per week, leading to prolonged accumulation of food residue in the patient's intestines. This causes the stool to become hard and dry. Additionally, it can interfere with the normal elimination of toxins from the body, resulting in darker stool color and the appearance of black stools. Patients are advised to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables to help relieve constipation.
