How many days after missed period can an ultrasound examination be performed?
Disease description:
My period has been delayed for a few days, and I might be pregnant. I would like to have an ultrasound examination. How many days after missing my period should I get the ultrasound?
Transvaginal ultrasound examination around 40 days after missed period. If the scan is performed too early during pregnancy, the gestational sac may be too small to be detected. Under normal circumstances, the gestational sac and yolk sac can be observed at about 42 days after missed period, and in some women, fetal bud and cardiac activity may also be visible. Since women's physiological cycles vary, it is recommended to start monitoring with color Doppler ultrasound 10 days after a positive pregnancy test to confirm intrauterine pregnancy and assess the size of the gestational sac. Any vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is abnormal and should prompt timely evaluation.
