Why does sneezing have a bad odor?
Disease description:
Recently, I caught a cold and started sneezing, but after sneezing I always notice a strange odor. I'd like to know why sneezing may be accompanied by an unusual smell.
Sneezing with a foul odor may be caused by various factors, mainly including:
1. Nasal diseases: such as rhinitis, sinusitis, nasal septum abscess, etc. These conditions may lead to purulent secretions or debris in the nasal cavity, resulting in an unpleasant smell.
2. Oral and gastrointestinal issues: Inflammation in the mouth such as gingivitis, periodontitis, or gastrointestinal problems like indigestion and Helicobacter pylori infection may also cause a foul odor during sneezing.
3. Foreign bodies or growths: If there are foreign objects in the nasal cavity, such as toys inserted by children, or growths such as polyps or papillomas, they may also lead to an unpleasant smell when sneezing.
If sneezing with a foul odor occurs repeatedly, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
