Can patients with gout drink whiskey?
Disease description:
I have a bit of a fondness for alcohol, especially spirits. However, I suffer from gout and would like to ask, is it okay for someone with gout to drink whiskey?

Patients with gout should not drink whiskey, mainly for the following reasons:
1. **High purine content**: Alcoholic beverages such as whiskey contain certain amounts of purine substances. Consumption by patients with gout may easily cause a sharp increase in purine levels in the body, thus triggering or worsening discomfort symptoms such as joint swelling and pain, and heat sensation.
2. **Impairs uric acid excretion**: After entering the body, alcohol promotes uric acid synthesis and simultaneously inhibits the kidneys' excretion of uric acid, leading to elevated blood uric acid levels. Excessively high uric acid levels can cause urate crystals to precipitate and deposit in areas such as joints, soft tissues, and kidneys, further aggravating gout symptoms.
3. **Increases kidney burden**: Heavy alcohol consumption can also easily lead to lactic acid accumulation in the body, increasing the functional burden on the kidneys and affecting urinary metabolic efficiency, which is detrimental to the excretion of uric acid and other metabolic waste products.
