Can people with gout drink protein powder?
Disease description:
I exercise on my own, and I take protein powder after working out. My gout has flared up these past few days, and I would like to know: is it okay for someone with gout to consume protein powder?
Gout patients can consume protein powder in moderation, but should pay attention to the following points:
1. Protein powder selection: It is recommended to choose low-purine protein powders, such as whey protein powder or pea protein powder, and avoid high-purine animal-based protein powders.
2. Moderate intake: The daily protein intake for gout patients should be controlled within a reasonable range. Excessive protein consumption may increase the burden on the kidneys and lead to elevated uric acid levels. Therefore, protein powder should be consumed in moderation to avoid overconsumption.
3. Kidney function status: Gout patients with concurrent kidney insufficiency should strictly control their protein intake and adjust the amount of protein powder consumed under a doctor's guidance.
4. Acute attack phase: During an acute gout attack, consumption of protein powder should be avoided to prevent worsening of the condition.
