Disease description:

I have recently been diagnosed with gout. At home, we use very little seasoning when cooking, and we have basically stopped using chicken bouillon. I would like to ask, can gout patients consume chicken bouillon?

Dr. Yang Ziqi
Patients with gout are advised not to consume chicken essence. As a common seasoning, chicken essence has a relatively high purine content, with approximately 500 milligrams of purines in every 100 grams. For individuals with gout, consuming high-purine foods can elevate uric acid levels in the body, thereby triggering or worsening symptoms of gout. The nucleotides present in chicken essence may also produce uric acid during metabolism, further increasing the uric acid burden in patients with gout. Therefore, gout patients should avoid or limit the intake of chicken essence in their daily diet to reduce the production and accumulation of uric acid. At the same time, patients should also maintain a low-purine diet, consume more low-purine foods such as fresh vegetables and fruits, and follow their doctor's treatment recommendations to control the condition, alleviate symptoms, and improve quality of life.
