Gout patients are not advised to consume beef, mainly for the following reasons: 1. High purine content: Beef contains high levels of purines. When gout patients ingest high-purine foods, the purines are metabolized in the body and produce uric acid, which can elevate blood uric acid levels and potentially trigger gout attacks or worsen symptoms. 2. Increased uric acid production: Gout is caused by either reduced excretion of uric acid or excessive production of uric acid, resulting in hyperuricemia. The uric acid generated from purine metabolism in beef further increases the uric acid burden in gout patients, which is detrimental to disease management. 3. Contraindicated during acute attacks: Particularly during an acute gout attack, patients should strictly limit their daily purine intake, typically advised to keep it between 100-150 mg. At this time, high-purine foods such as beef should be strictly avoided.
