Disease description:

I’ve been menstruating these past few days and haven’t experienced any dysmenorrhea. Last night, while having a late-night snack, I drank a small amount of alcohol. This morning, I began experiencing menstrual cramps. I’d like to ask: Is it safe to drink alcohol during menstruation? Are there any precautions I should take?

Hello, menstruation occurs primarily due to cyclical growth of the uterine lining in women, driven by the continuous secretion of various female sex hormones. This process facilitates the shedding and expulsion of uterine tissue and metabolic waste from the body. Alcohol consumption is not recommended during menstruation, as it can disrupt hormonal balance and lead to menstrual irregularities—such as abnormal cycle length, excessive or insufficient bleeding, or delayed/missed periods—if consumed during this time. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid alcohol entirely throughout your period and resume drinking only after menstruation has fully ended. I hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
