What Is a Dilation and Curettage (D&C) Procedure?

Dilation and curettage (D&C) is primarily performed to remove incompletely expelled tissue remaining in the uterine cavity after miscarriage, thereby facilitating uterine recovery and reducing the risks of infection and bleeding. D&C is a minimally invasive gynecological procedure that does not require incisions. It begins with cervical dilation, followed by the use of a curette to gently scrape away embryonic tissue or residual incomplete tissue from the uterine lining. The procedure must be carried out under strict aseptic conditions.
