Introduction
After puberty, boys experience increased secretion of androgens, which may lead to endocrine imbalances and subsequent acne outbreaks—particularly on the face. Generally, it is recommended to consume more cooling and light foods and to engage in regular physical activity to effectively enhance metabolic function. Since the onset of puberty varies among individuals, physicians cannot predict precisely when each boy will develop acne.

Acne is the medical term for what we commonly refer to as “pimples” or “zits.” It is also known as “acne vulgaris,” a condition that predominantly affects adolescents—both males and females—hence its association with puberty.

At What Age Do Boys Typically Develop Acne?

After boys begin puberty, their bodies produce increased levels of androgens (male sex hormones), which may lead to endocrine imbalances and subsequent acne outbreaks—most commonly on the face. It is generally recommended to consume cooling, light, and easily digestible foods and to engage in regular physical activity to effectively promote metabolic health. Since the onset of puberty varies significantly among individuals, physicians cannot predict precisely when each boy will develop acne. If acne appears during puberty, there is usually no cause for excessive concern—it is a normal physiological phenomenon. Proper skincare is essential. However, if the condition is severe, consultation with a dermatologist is advised.

Acne in boys typically results from elevated androgen levels, which stimulate sebaceous gland activity and increase sebum production. Inadequate skincare during this period may disrupt sebum regulation and predispose the skin to localized infection. Not all boys develop acne during puberty; the timing often correlates with rising androgen levels and the emergence of secondary sexual characteristics—such as facial hair growth, pubic hair development, and laryngeal prominence (Adam’s apple)—which commonly coincide with the age at which acne is most likely to appear.

Maintain a healthy daily routine, limit intake of spicy foods, and increase consumption of fruits and vegetables. We hope this information is helpful to you.
