Introduction
Frequent nosebleeds should first raise suspicion of unhealthy habits, such as staying up late, excessive studying, or the habit of picking the nose. These behaviors can cause bleeding of the nasal mucosa—especially when combined with an unbalanced diet and inadequate nutrition, which may impair the development and integrity of the nasal mucosa. It is essential to correct these unhealthy lifestyle habits: avoid picking the nose and increase intake of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins.

Some patients experience recurrent nosebleeds—not just occasionally, but frequently. What are the common causes of frequent epistaxis?

What Causes Frequent Nosebleeds?

Frequent nosebleeds are often linked to unhealthy habits, such as chronic sleep deprivation, excessive studying, or habitual nose-picking. These behaviors can damage the nasal mucosa and cause bleeding—especially when combined with an unbalanced diet and nutritional deficiencies, which may impair normal development and health of the nasal mucosa. Therefore, it is essential to eliminate these harmful habits: avoid picking your nose, and increase your intake of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins.

Additionally, consider whether you’ve recently sustained minor trauma or bruising to the nose—for instance, accidental bumps that injure the nasal mucosa. Such injuries can compromise mucosal integrity and predispose you to epistaxis. Thus, take care during daily activities: avoid vigorous exercise and always prioritize safety. Also, excessively dry environmental conditions can reduce mucosal mucus secretion, leading to nasal mucosal dryness and increasing the risk of nosebleeds. To help prevent this, consume fruits high in water content and rich in vitamins—particularly vitamin C and other nutrients that support vascular health.

When a nosebleed occurs, immediate first-aid measures should be taken to control bleeding. For example, raise the arm on the side opposite the bleeding nostril: if the left nostril is bleeding, raise your right arm; if the right nostril is bleeding, raise your left arm; if both nostrils are bleeding, raise both arms. Once bleeding has stopped, slowly lower your arms. We hope this information is helpful!
