What are the benefits of infant swimming?
After birth, babies are usually wrapped in blankets and kept immobile. However, infants actually need plenty of movement and exercise right after birth. Nowadays, many newborns begin swimming shortly after being born. So, what are the benefits of infant swimming?
What Are the Benefits of Infant Swimming?
1. Swimming can promote height growth; enhance overall muscle development, especially respiratory and skeletal muscles; improve blood circulation and increase lung capacity; support motor development, making movements more coordinated, which is beneficial for overall growth and development.
2. Swimming strengthens the body's resistance to diseases by enhancing adaptability to the external environment, promoting metabolism, and improving temperature regulation and endocrine functions.

Infant swimming sessions should not be too long. Parents must carefully control the duration and intensity of their baby’s time in the water—it's not better to swim longer. For a baby's first swim, 7 minutes is sufficient. Subsequently, the duration may gradually be extended to 15–20 minutes depending on the baby’s condition, but should not exceed 30 minutes. Swimming too long or excessive physical activity in water may cause significant fatigue in the baby, and in severe cases, even lead to collapse.

Parents must always maintain proper water temperature during infant swimming. When the water feels cooler, warm water should be added appropriately to maintain a stable temperature. During swimming, the caregiver should stay within arm's reach of the baby at all times for safety. Caregivers should not hold onto the swim ring to move the baby around the pool. Instead, gently hold the baby’s hands to help them move through the water. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and happiness!
