Postpartum Care Tips for Women
After about 40 weeks, a woman gives birth smoothly. At that time, various organs in the body suffer some degree of damage. Postpartum confinement, commonly known as "sitting the month," allows the body to recover. So what should women pay attention to during this postnatal recovery period?
Important Tips for Women During Postpartum Confinement
1. Personal hygiene—especially bathing and hair washing—is crucial. Most new mothers choose to wash their hair with ginger-infused water. Washing should not be done too frequently. After washing, avoid exposure to drafts and immediately dry the hair thoroughly using a hair dryer on a low setting. Washing the hair twice during the entire month is sufficient.
2. Women who have just given birth should ideally ask someone else to care for the baby during the first two days. When breastfeeding, it's fine to hold the baby briefly, but avoid holding the baby continuously. Otherwise, long-term strain may lead to chronic pain in the arms and fingers, which might persist even after the confinement period.
3. During the postpartum confinement, mothers should stay relaxed and avoid getting angry or crying. Be very careful—absolutely refrain from crying during this period. Otherwise, eye discomfort may occur later. Some people may develop wind-induced tearing afterward.

"Sitting the month" is a folk term referring to the puerperium—the period following childbirth when a woman’s body returns to its pre-pregnancy state. Significant physiological changes occur during pregnancy and after delivery, and the confinement period helps the body adjust and recover. After the baby is born, the cervix and external genitalia become soft, congested, and swollen, while the uterine lining shows signs of abrasion and shedding. The external genitalia typically take over ten days to recover, the uterus requires about 42 days, and the endometrium needs approximately 56 days to fully regenerate.

After giving birth, women should properly observe the postpartum confinement period and not miss this valuable time for recuperation. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and happiness!
