Methods to relieve edema
Edema can generally be relieved through general treatment, physical therapy, or medication. However, it is essential to identify the underlying cause before treatment. Common causes of edema include prolonged standing, hypoalbuminemia, and varicose veins.
1. General Treatment
Prolonged standing may lead to excessive local lactic acid buildup, resulting in edema. This condition can be alleviated through general measures such as soaking the feet, which promotes blood circulation and accelerates metabolism, helping the body eliminate excess fluid and thereby reducing edema.
2. Physical Therapy
Edema caused by varicose veins usually results from venous spasms due to excessive fatigue. In such cases, treatment options—based on a doctor's advice—may include wearing compression stockings or undergoing procedures such as laser therapy, microwave therapy, or radiofrequency ablation.
3. Medication
Edema due to hypoalbuminemia occurs when reduced plasma protein levels lead to decreased colloid osmotic pressure. For hypoalbuminemia-related edema, medications should be taken under medical supervision, such as malotilate tablets or compound amino acid capsules.
