Can mei tea treat chronic pharyngitis?
Mei tea can generally serve as an adjunct in managing chronic pharyngitis, but it cannot cure the condition.
Chronic pharyngitis has complex causes, possibly resulting from bacterial infections, prolonged exposure to highly irritating environments, laryngopharyngeal reflux, or allergic diseases. Symptoms may include itching, dryness, burning sensation, and a feeling of a foreign body in the throat. Mei tea possesses good nutritional and medicinal properties, containing abundant flavonoids that can help boost immunity, reduce swelling and pain, clear heat and detoxify the body, kill bacteria and reduce inflammation, soothe the throat, relieve cough, and lower blood pressure. Therefore, drinking moderate amounts of mei tea may help alleviate discomfort associated with chronic pharyngitis. However, due to its limited therapeutic effect and the stubborn, hard-to-cure nature of chronic pharyngitis, it cannot eradicate the disease.
Patients with chronic pharyngitis should actively quit smoking and alcohol consumption, improve their living and working environments, maintain oral hygiene using solutions such as nitrofurazone or compound borax solution under medical guidance, and take medications like menthol lozenges or Yinhuang throat tablets to relieve symptoms.
