Introduction
"Artificial abortion" generally refers to induced abortion. It is possible to experience bleeding up to 7 days after the procedure, which may be due to normal physiological processes, uterine involution, individual differences, retained products in the uterine cavity, or infection. Appropriate measures can be taken depending on the specific cause. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation and treatment under a doctor's guidance. After an artificial abortion, patients may have residual blood accumulation in the vaginal canal.

Abortion usually refers to induced abortion. Vaginal bleeding lasting up to 7 days after an induced abortion may be caused by normal physiological processes, uterine involution, individual differences, retained intrauterine tissue, or infection. Appropriate measures can be taken depending on the specific cause. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation and treatment under a doctor's guidance.

1. Normal Phenomenon

After an induced abortion, residual blood may remain in the vagina and be discharged intermittently. Some patients, especially those with weaker constitutions or inadequate postoperative care, may require a longer time to expel lochia (postpartum vaginal discharge), without other discomfort symptoms. This condition generally does not require excessive concern. Patients should maintain a balanced diet, consume adequate low-fat, protein-rich foods such as fish, eggs, and milk, get sufficient rest, and avoid staying up late or overexertion.

2. Uterine Involution Process

After an induced abortion, the uterus requires time to return to its pre-pregnancy state—a process known as uterine involution. During this period, the uterus continues to contract, expelling residual blood and endometrial tissues from the uterine cavity, which results in vaginal bleeding. Adequate rest is recommended, and excessive physical strain should be avoided, as fatigue may impair uterine contraction and recovery.

3. Individual Differences

Each person's physical condition and physiological functions vary, including differences in uterine contractility and coagulation function. Some women may have relatively weaker uterine contractions or poorer clotting ability, leading to prolonged post-abortion bleeding. In terms of diet, it may help to increase intake of vitamin K-rich foods such as spinach and broccoli.

4. Retained Intrauterine Tissue

During an abortion procedure, some embryonic or endometrial tissue may remain in the uterine cavity. These residues can interfere with normal uterine contractions, causing persistent bleeding, often accompanied by abdominal pain and bright red blood. Under medical supervision, patients may be treated with medications such as Yimucao Granules, Xinshenghua Granules, or Wu Jia Sheng Hua Capsules.

5. Infection

Infections may occur due to sexual activity before the procedure, inadequate sterilization during surgery, or poor hygiene afterward, leading to bacterial growth and continued bleeding 7 days post-operation. Under a doctor’s guidance, patients may take antibiotics such as Cefixime Tablets, Amoxicillin Capsules, or Gynecological Qianjin Tablets for treatment.

After an abortion, patients should follow a light diet and avoid spicy or irritating foods such as garlic, hot pot, and wasabi. Sufficient rest is important, and excessive physical exertion should be avoided to prevent adverse effects on recovery and overall health.
