How to treat deformed bones
Bone deformities can generally be treated through external fixation correction, bone surgery, or orthopedic surgery. The specific treatment method depends on the patient's age and the severity of the condition.
1. External Fixation Correction
If bone deformity occurs in young children, external fixation using braces may be applied. This helps stabilize the bones and prevent further deformation. Additionally, appropriate supplementation with calcium, protein, and other nutrients is recommended.
2. Bone Surgery
In adolescents, bone deformities caused by growth plate-related conditions can be treated with bone surgery under a doctor’s guidance. Internal fixation can be used to slow down abnormally fast-growing bones, achieving a corrective effect.
3. Orthopedic Surgery
In adults with severe bone deformities, orthopedic surgery may be performed as directed by a physician. Procedures such as U-shaped osteotomy or wedge osteotomy can be conducted, followed by internal fixation.
Furthermore, if the bone deformity is particularly severe, multi-level osteotomies may be required, combined with intramedullary nailing for internal fixation. The exact treatment approach should be determined based on the underlying cause of the bone deformity.
