Hazards of eating mackerel
The potential risks of eating mackerel generally include indigestion, allergies, and gastroenteritis.
1. Indigestion
Normally, eating mackerel in moderation does not affect health. However, excessive consumption may increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, leading to indigestion and symptoms such as bloating and diarrhea.
2. Allergic reactions
If a person has an allergic constitution and is specifically allergic to mackerel, consuming it may trigger an adverse immune response, resulting in symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin redness, and itching.
3. Gastroenteritis
If mackerel is not thoroughly cleaned or properly cooked, residual pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, or other microorganisms may cause infection, leading to gastroenteritis.
In addition, because mackerel contains relatively high levels of purine, long-term or excessive consumption may lead to hyperuricemia.
