Is knee synovitis serious?
The severity of knee synovitis depends on the individual patient's specific condition.
1. Severe
Knee synovitis can cause severe joint pain and local swelling. If not treated promptly, the inflammation may worsen and, under persistent inflammatory stimulation, lead to joint damage. In severe cases, it can affect normal walking. Additionally, if the synovitis is tuberculous in nature, it is considered particularly serious and may lead to degeneration of the knee joint. Patients should promptly follow a doctor’s guidance to use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as celecoxib, Huamoyan Yankeli (a traditional Chinese medicine), or ibuprofen tablets.
2. Not severe
Knee synovitis is not necessarily a serious condition. With timely treatment and good disease control, the severity can be reduced and may not significantly impact the patient’s daily life.
In addition, when knee synovitis is severe, patients should seek prompt medical care and may require arthroscopic debridement surgery. During treatment, adequate rest is essential, and strenuous physical activity should be avoided for a period of time.
