Does eating celery make you darker?
Generally, eating celery does not cause skin darkening, but long-term and excessive consumption may lead to skin pigmentation.
Celery is a common vegetable rich in beta-carotene, dietary fiber, vitamin C, and other components. It has strong antioxidant properties and, when consumed in moderation, can help clear heat, eliminate dampness, cool the blood, detoxify, and moisten the intestines to relieve constipation. Normally, it does not cause skin darkening. However, celery contains photosensitive substances such as furocoumarins, which are not destroyed during cooking nor fully absorbed during digestion. These compounds enter the bloodstream and reach the skin, and prolonged, excessive intake may increase both the amount and activity of melanin in the body, potentially leading to skin pigmentation.
It is recommended to maintain a balanced diet and practice proper sun protection and skincare to reduce the risk of skin pigmentation.
