How to treat dry throat and a strong feeling of dehydration
Dryness in the throat and a sensation of dehydration require treatment based on the underlying cause. This may result from physiological factors, or it could be due to pathological conditions such as chronic pharyngitis or atrophic pharyngitis.
I. Physiological Factors
This condition may arise from excessive fatigue leading to reduced saliva production, or frequent consumption of spicy and irritating foods without timely hydration. Symptoms typically resolve spontaneously with adequate rest and a light diet, without requiring specific medical treatment.
II. Pathological Factors
1. Chronic Pharyngitis
In cases of chronic pharyngitis, prolonged inflammation may reduce secretions in the throat. Treatment under a doctor's guidance may include lozenges such as cydiodine lozenges, watermelon frost lozenges, or coral grass lozenges.
2. Atrophic Pharyngitis
If atrophic pharyngitis is caused by long-term picky eating leading to malnutrition, antibiotic medications may be used as directed by a physician. Commonly prescribed drugs include azithromycin dispersible tablets, roxithromycin dispersible tablets, and cefuroxime axetil tablets.
In addition, this symptom could also be caused by diabetes. It is recommended to treat the underlying condition accordingly.
