The Efficacy and Functions of Luo Bu Ma
Luobuma is a traditional Chinese herb derived from the dried leaves of Apocynum venetum, a plant belonging to the Apocynaceae family. Used medicinally in the form of its leaves, it has a sweet and slightly bitter taste and a cool nature, acting primarily on the liver meridian. It is known for its effects of clearing heat, calming the liver, strengthening the heart, and lowering blood lipids and blood pressure.
1. Clearing Heat and Calming the Liver
Luobuma contains various natural active components that can effectively enhance immune function, protect the liver, and improve its detoxification capacity, thereby achieving the effect of clearing heat and calming the liver.
2. Strengthening the Heart
Luobuma is rich in flavonoids, which help eliminate free radicals in the body, nourish the myocardium, reduce myocardial ischemia, enhance cardiac function, and effectively relieve angina pectoris.
3. Lowering Blood Lipids and Blood Pressure
Luobuma contains rutin, which exhibits vitamin P-like activity. Rutin helps maintain or restore normal capillary resistance, improves vascular flexibility and elasticity, reduces serum cholesterol levels, and prevents fat deposition in blood vessel walls. Additionally, the tannic acid present in Luobuma helps inhibit elevated blood pressure, making it suitable for use by patients with hypertension.
In addition to these benefits, Luobuma also has diuretic properties. However, potential side effects should be considered during use. Due to its astringent taste, prolonged use may cause damage to the nervous system and kidneys. Patients with hypertension or high blood lipid levels should use Luobuma only under medical supervision.
