Breast tenderness occurred just over a week after menstruation ended
Breast pain occurring about a week after menstruation may be caused by hormonal changes, trauma, mammary gland hyperplasia, mastitis, or breast fibroadenoma. Appropriate treatment should be selected based on the underlying cause.
1. Hormonal Changes
After menstruation ends, estrogen levels gradually rise. This can stimulate the breast tissue, leading to slight swelling and congestion, which may result in localized pain and a feeling of fullness or discomfort. This is usually a normal physiological phenomenon and does not require treatment.
2. Trauma
If the breast suffers external impact or compression, minor blood vessels in the breast tissue may be damaged or ruptured. Accumulation of blood in the injured area can lead to local pain and a sensation of swelling. It is recommended to apply cold compresses within the first 24 hours after injury to help control bleeding and relieve pain. After 24 hours, applying warm compresses locally can promote blood circulation and improve symptoms.
3. Mammary Gland Hyperplasia
Following the development of mammary gland hyperplasia, increased growth and density of breast tissue may cause distending pain in one or both breasts, possibly accompanied by nipple discharge or lumps. Under medical guidance, medications such as Xiaojin Pills, Pingxiao Tablets, or Rupi Sanjie Capsules may be used for treatment.
4. Mastitis
When inflammatory reactions occur in the breast, inflammatory exudates may block the mammary ducts, causing local pain and swelling, along with symptoms such as increased skin temperature and high fever. Under medical supervision, anti-infective drugs like Amoxicillin capsules, Cefpodoxime Proxetil tablets, or Cefuroxime Axetil tablets may be prescribed.
5. Breast Fibroadenoma
After menstruation, fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels may increase the sensitivity of fibroadenomas, resulting in breast distension and pain, often accompanied by nodular masses within the breast. Surgical removal of the fibroadenoma at a hospital is recommended, which can help alleviate symptoms.
If breast pain frequently occurs about a week after menstruation, it should be taken seriously. Prompt medical evaluation is necessary to determine the exact cause, followed by active, doctor-guided treatment.
