Can otitis media be treated with ear drops alone?
Otitis media usually cannot be treated with ear drops alone; additional medications are typically required.
Otitis media is commonly caused by bacterial infection invading the middle ear cavity, leading to increased negative pressure in the middle ear, blood vessel dilation, and sometimes fluid exudation. Patients often experience symptoms such as tinnitus, ear fullness, and hearing loss. Generally, ear drops alone are not sufficient to effectively control the progression of inflammation. Under a doctor's guidance, oral antibiotics should be used in combination to improve the condition. Commonly used medications include cefixime capsules, cefprozil granules, and cefdinir dispersible tablets, which help fight infection and promote resolution of inflammation.
During treatment, avoid consuming other irritating foods, as they may exacerbate the inflammation.
