Besides the aforementioned causes, conditions such as acute mastoiditis, acute sinusitis, or bullous myringitis could also be responsible. 1. External Ear Eczema
If eczema develops on the skin of the external auditory canal, it can cause itching and discomfort in the ear. Because the eczematous area is close to the ear opening, scratching may lead to erosion, pus discharge, and pain. It is recommended to follow medical advice and use antihistamine medications such as mupirocin ointment, loratadine syrup, or cetirizine hydrochloride oral solution, which can relieve itching and improve symptoms of pus discharge.
2. Otitis Externa
Otitis externa involves diffuse inflammation of the external ear canal, repeatedly irritating the skin and increasing secretions, leading to symptoms such as pus discharge and ear pain. Under medical guidance, treatment may include oral antibiotics such as cefaclor granules, roxithromycin granules, or amoxicillin capsules, which help control infection, providing antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
3. Suppurative Otitis Media
If a newborn suffers from bacterial infection causing purulent inflammation of the middle ear mucosa, severe cases may present with ear pain, itching, and pus discharge. After consultation with a physician, treatment options may include clindamycin hydrochloride ear drops, roxithromycin dispersible tablets, or cefixime tablets, along with proper supportive care during medication.
In addition to the above causes, acute mastoiditis, acute sinusitis, or bullous myringitis could also be responsible. Prompt medical attention is essential once symptoms appear. Attention to ear hygiene and providing proper care for the newborn are also important.
