Introduction
If blood sugar is only slightly elevated and promptly controlled through dietary adjustments, increased physical activity, and other measures after detection, it generally does not cause any discomfort. However, if blood sugar is significantly elevated and not timely managed, the increasing glucose levels in the bloodstream may lead to a sweet taste in the mouth.

Under normal circumstances, if blood glucose is only slightly elevated and promptly brought back to the normal range, it generally does not cause a sweet taste in the mouth. However, if blood glucose levels are significantly elevated and no intervention is made, a sweet taste in the mouth may occur. The detailed analysis is as follows:
  1. No
If blood glucose is only mildly elevated and timely measures—such as adjusting diet and increasing physical activity—are taken to bring blood sugar levels back to normal, discomfort symptoms generally will not develop.
  2. Yes
If blood glucose is markedly elevated and no timely intervention is implemented, the increasing glucose concentration in the blood can lead to higher sugar content in saliva, causing physical discomfort and possibly accompanied by symptoms such as excessive thirst and frequent urination. If high blood glucose is present along with a sweet taste in the mouth, prompt medical evaluation is necessary. If diagnosed with hyperglycemia or diabetes, treatment with antidiabetic medications—such as metformin hydrochloride tablets or acarbose tablets—should be initiated according to medical advice to maintain blood glucose within the target range. Patients experiencing any discomfort should seek medical care at the hospital as soon as possible.
